1 pt each way LONGSHANKS Grand National 33/1 ( with four firms)

Went in many notebooks as a future Aintree national type when a close second to Cassia Heights in the Topham three years ago. Has failed to make the line up in 2005 and 2006 but his Newbury win in November has put him in a mark where it is almost certain enough will come out the race to get him in this time. Again showed a liking for the unique course when running a fine race to be fourth in a much more competitive Topham in 2005, performing best out of those racing up with the fast pace. Don't be fooled in to thinking he won't stay extreme distances - he's best fresh( he won't run again before Aintree) and the below par performance in the Scottish National can be attributed to the race coming too soon. By Broadsword out of a Carlingford Castle mare, he'll stay the trip alright. His career over the last few years has been geared towards this and Bailey ( I can't believe he's lost the plot altogether !) will, fingers crossed, produce him in the form of his life on the day. Definitely catches the eye in the ante-post lists and must be included in any portfolio for the race.

Lost - 2pts
